Growing up in a nontraditional household comes with a set of challenges most people cant understand. Single parenthood is on the rise and is almost normal for the demographic where a lot of children, like Zella, were raised. What makes her amazing is that she was raised by her great-grandmother, one of five children that were unable to rely on the people responsible for their DNA. The readers cant help but admire her as a lifetime learner that takes the good with the bad and makes the brighter side of life shine anyway. This book was written as a testament to herself that no matter where you are and what youre doing, there is someone with a similar story trying to get there. Books teach us that there is someone out there for all of us, and we are not alone; this is exactly what this book is about.
