The entire story of the book revolves around the incredible life of Annie May Wilkinson, a girl who fell in love with a black slave boy. Their tale of love experiences, the hardships of the darkest periods of the history of the USA. They were excluded by society, and even their own families refused to accept their unconditional and selfless love. Despite all the sufferings, their love for each other remained steadfast in their entire life. Annie grew up in one of the richest households in Wichita, Kansas, at the time. Yet, she went through poverty and sometimes even had to sleep hungry just so she could be with the love of her life. Her utmost resistance to social injustice and her resilience in love teaches us that true love is the strongest force in the world. They won against society with the power of their love and ended up marrying each other after unbearable struggles.
